  8. BEFORE YOU START:
  9. 1. BACK UP YOUR SOFTWARE
  10. Lock your master disk.  To lock it slide the small tab toward the edge of the disk to expose the little hole. Copy the folder "HIV/AIDS STUDY"  to your hard disk.  A hard disk is recommended but not essential.
  11. 2. SAVE YOUR MASTER DISK
  12. In the event the copy you are using is destroyed or lost, you may make additional copies from your master disk.

  15. This stackware is authored by John F. McGrady DDS.  It is primarily intended as an educational aid for health care providers, specifically those completing the comprehensive and detailed AIDS home study course offered by:

The Health Studies Institute AIDS course covers the etiology & epidemiology of HIV, testing and counseling, transmission and infection control, psychosocial issues, clinical manifestations and treatment, and legal and ethical issues.  It is not only informative and well written, but meets the certifiable requirements of states which require continuing education of health care professionals.  It is good for 10 contact hours.

  24. This HIV/AIDS Study Stack and accompanying stack "aidsCloseUp" are intended to enhance home study for professionals with access to a Macintosh® computer and HyperCard® 1.2 or greater which is bundled with every shipped Macintosh.

  32. HELP: (Review of icons on the left border of the HyperCard screen.)
  33. • Click on the "house" icon to go to the home stack.
  34. • Click on the icon beneath it to turn the menu bar on/off
  35. • Click on the push-button icon to install a link to your Home card.
  36. • Click on the microscope icon for closer inspection of the HIV and        
  37.     infection sequence.  From there click on the test sheet icon to     
  38.     return to this quiz stack
  39. • Click on the question mark icon for a field with more general information and to access the national AIDS hotlines. (Click on the phone icon when visible.) You may also click on the question mark (or the field) to make the general help field disapppear.
  40. • Click on the coconut tree icon to make this field disappear or        
  41.    appear. You may also click on this field to make is disappear.

  43. MORE HELP:
  44. • Click on the speaker icon on the quiz index cards to turn the sound off/on.  
  45. • Clicking on the right/left arrows moves you through the quiz cards.  If you answer a question correctly you automatically move to the next quiz card.  If you answer a question incorrectly you will remain on that quiz card until either you answer the question correctly or move to another card using the arrow keys.  The ratio of correct responses to number of responses is recorded.
  46. • Pushing on the "RESTART" button returns you to the first card and sets the score to zero.
  47. • Pushing on the "HINT" button shows a hint for that particular question that may be helpful.
